The December solstice, also known as the southern solstice, is the solstice that occurs each December, between the 20th and the 22nd day of the month according to the Gregorian calendar. In the Southern Hemisphere, the December solstice is the summer solstice,  but in the Northern Hemisphere it is the winter solstice.  It's usually consider a time for  renew and re-birth.

EL SOLSTICIO DE DICIEMBRE Y EL ESPÍRITU DE LA NAVIDAD

Los solsticios (del latín solstitium (sol sistere), es decir, "Sol quieto". Son los momentos del año en los que el Sol alcanza su mayor o menor altura aparente en el cielo, y la duración del día o de la noche son las máximas del año, respectivamente. 

El significado o interpretación de este evento ha variado en las distintas culturas del mundo, pero la mayoría de ellas lo reconoce como un período de renovación y re-nacimiento, que conlleva celebraciones o  festivales.
