Maya's Sunflower Magic by HerBrina - Review

Proud reviewer since 2015 to Read Your World former Multicultural Children’s Book Day.

This event has helped me promote my books, received reviews for my books, increase followers in my social media (Twitter and Instagram), and meet authors from around the world. Excellent resource for networking and interviews.

This year Match Book Review 2025 is for

Maya's Sunflower Magic

HerBrina Sade' Shepherd

The author HerBrina Sade’s Shepherd gives an invitation to enter into "Maya’s Sunflower Magic" and dedicated this story to All the Beautiful Black Girls and Women.

My favorite line is when Maya’s hear her inner voice telling her. “…Your sunflower bloom with the essence of your uniqueness.”

"Maya's Sunflower Magic” is a celebration of the limitless potential in every black girl, inspiring them to blossom to make the world a magic and better place. However, I would have included a sentence where I included all the girls and women in the world.

I highly recommend this book!

Multicultural Children's Book Day 2025

When I was a child, I always dreamed of traveling around the world , meeting people with different cultures, tasting delicious foods, and learn different languages.

A perfect dream that I made it possible while reading!

Diversity in children’s literature has been a topic of concern to movements like Multicultural Children’s Book Day (MCBD). Authors, illustrators, educators and bloggers have been an important element to make sure children have access to books that celebrate diversity. Feature characters from diverse cultures, countries and race are an important building block of the learning process in classroom and at home. It is fundamental to teach students from early age that different does not mean to be wrong.

I’m pleased to be part of MCBD since June 2015 not only as an author, but also as a Reviewer to Multicultural Children’s Book Day and Board of Trustees. This event has helped me promote my books, received reviews for my books, increase followers in my social media (Twitter and Instagram), and meet authors from around the world. Book Review of Las Estrellas de los Reyes Magos

Las estrellas de los Reyes Magos

By Tere Rodriguez-Nora

Review

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

With vivid illustrations and thoughtful message, Benjamin discovers an ancient tradition.

The story begins in a clear night full of stars, Benjamin differentiates three in particular that twinkled more than the others. When he went to visit his grandfather, he explains him the magical story behind those stars and the connection between Orion Constellation and the Three Kings Stars.

Child and Grandfather dialogue about the traditional Spanish celebration and how it remains similar until today. It is a custom to prepare water and a box of hay for the camels the night before the Great feast since the Three Kings have traveled a long distance. The Kings bring the presents to the children as they brought presents once.

The conversation ends hoping this tradition remains forever.

Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2024 (1/25/25) is in its 11th year! Valarie Budayr and Mia Wenjen founded this non-profit children’s literacy initiative; they are two diverse book-loving moms who saw a need to shine the spotlight on all of the multicultural diverse books and authors on the market while also working to get those books into the hands of young readers and educators. Read Your World’s mission is to raise awareness of the need to include kids’ books celebrating diversity in homes and school bookshelves. Read about our Mission and history HERE.
