Book Review of Plumas y Amigos - Feather and Friends

This year, I have a list of amazing bilingual, English and Spanish picture books that I received as part of Read Your World (formerly known as Multicultural Children’s Book Day). For more than ten years, I’ve been a reviewer, author sponsor for six of them, and a proud member of the Board of Trustees.

This is one of my book reviews for 2026:

With colorful illustrations, the story introduces Sami, originally from Afghanistan, who has just moved to Seattle and loves to draw. While drawing a huge bird on the pavement, he meets Rosa, who loves to write and lives in Ecuador. The two discover that they share an interest in birds and, together, embark on a project to create a book about all the birds they see during their excursion.

This bilingual English-Spanish book is part of the Language Lizard Living in Harmony collection, which helps explain concepts such as diversity, kindness, and friendship. An excellent book for ESOL programs.

Diane Costa Geovanna Delgado  (translator) -  Joyeeta Neogi  (illustrator)

Three Kings Day - Día de los Reyes Magos

Celebrate Traditions - Celebrando las tradiciones

After Christmas and New Year, the celebrations continue with the Three Kings’ Day, which is celebrated on January 6th, but different churches recognize it on diverse dates. It is also known as Día de Los Reyes Magos or Epiphany. It commemorates the visit of the Magi, and the manifestation of Jesus’ divinity and saving mission to all nations (Matt 2:1-12).

The word “epiphany” comes from the Greek epiphainen, a verb that means "to shine upon," "to manifest," or “to make known.”

Happy Three Kings Day!

Welcome January - Bienvenido enero

Reflections by Maritza Martínez Mejía

January is usually a month to make resolutions. It is gratifying to meet our goals, but do we follow the resolutions throughout the year? Probably not!

However, it is important to start the year with a purpose in mind and grateful heart. Let's set up small goals base on the good things and experiences learned from the previous year. Step by step, you can reach far.

Let's star the New Year with a grateful heart!❤️

Happy and Blessed New Year!

May the Bethlehem Star guide your path!

¡Probablemente no!
