Resolution Vs. Value - Resolución Vs. Valor

December is usually a month to ask for presents, to make an evaluation of the year that is going to end and resolutions for the year to come. Probably some of the gifts are received, the objectives are completed, other goals remain unfinished for various reasons and others do not event reach the end of January, Am I right? 

I prefer to stop asking and better thank-analyze and add a value to my life.

Have you ever thought, what would be the value you would like to add to your life in the New Year? I invite you to reflect on the past year and look for what you want to add to the year to come. Think of your Resolution list as a VALUE you want to add to your life. What would it be?

Diciembre es generalmente un mes para pedir deseos, evaluar el año que está por terminar y hacer las resoluciones del año que está por venir. Probablemente algunas de los regalos se reciban, los objetivos se cumplan, otras metas quedan inconclusas por diversas razones y otras incluso no llegan al final del mes de Enero, ¿Estoy en lo cierto?

Yo prefiero dejar de pedir y mejor Agradecer-Analizar y Agregar un valor a mi vida.

Everyone has a reason 
To celebrate the season
If you don't have a season
Let's find the reason

Family traditions with music and food around a table, build memories for years to come. What traditions do you have for the Season? 

Any way is all right 

It is part of your life
If you don’t have a season 
It’s time to find the reason

When I was a child, one of the most observed traditional holidays in Colombia, during December, was the Little Candles’ Day ((Día de las Velitas). It is celebrated on the eve of the Immaculate Conception. On December 7th, people place candles and paper lanterns on windowsills, balconies, sidewalks, everywhere they can be seen, in honor of the Virgin Mary and her Immaculate Conception. Today, far from home, I keep and share this tradition.

As an adult, I have the opportunity to meet new people and celebrate new traditions. I adopted the devotion to celebrate “La Purisima”. It is a nine days of prayers and songs before December 8^th in honor of the Virgin Mary and her Immaculate Conception. The last day of the Novena, families and friends gather together to sing, share goodies, and even have some fireworks. It’s similar to my native devotion, but different in details.

As a teacher, I’ve learned different traditions around the world while doing projects with the students. The similarities and differences between traditions make them special, but there is a common purpose: Gather families and friends together around a table.

Welcome December - Bienvenido Diciembre

Reflections by Maritza Martínez Mejía

For Christians, December is a time of preparation for Christmas. During four weeks of waiting period called Advent, we prepare an Advent Wreath. Each Sunday a candle will be lit. The first, second, and forth candle are purple and the third candle is pink color. These colors represent a time of preparation and joy for the birthday of Jesus; reason for the season. This year, I invite you to set aside the commercial rush and find the real reason of the season. Don’t forget to collect family memories not possessions.

Para los cristianos, Diciembre es un tiempo de preparación a la Navidad. Durante cuatro semanas o período de espera llamada Adviento, preparamos una Corona de Adviento. Cada domingo se enciende una vela. La primera, segunda y cuarta vela son púrpura y la tercera vela es de color rosado. Estos colores representan la espera y gozo de la celebración al Nacimiento de Jesús; razón de la Navidad. Éste año, los invito a dejar a un lado las congestiones comerciales de ésta temporada y encontremos la razón de la Navidad. No olvides coleccionar memorias familiares no posesiones. 

¡Feliz  Año Nuevo!
