According to the Academy of American Poets, National Poetry Month has become the largest literary celebration in the world, with tens of millions of readers, students, K-12 teachers, librarians, booksellers, literary events curators, publishers, bloggers, and, of course, poets marking poetry’s important place in our culture and our lives. 

 In 2021, the Academy of American Poets looks forward to celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of this annual celebration!

Luz Del Mes Tri-lingual Anthology is an extraordinary literary collaborative effort of 30 authors from around the world. When I was invited to participate in the project, I immediately agreed as the book uses Haiku Poetry to teach themes on the environment and spirituality. The prologue by Japanese Professor Masashi Nakamura is remarkable. It reminds us of Shinto teachings which are the essence of life is connecting with nature and spirit to evolve as a human race. I found the multicultural traditions shared by the talented authors simple, authentic, and fascinating all at once. The poetry and traditions will fill your heart space and increase awareness of the importance of being in tune with nature, spirituality, and more importantly preserving cultural traditions for our families. I gave the book five brilliant stars. My hope is others will open their hearts to the love and peace this Anthology offers in three languages (English, Spanish, and Greek). Congratulations to Maritza M. Mejia and the amazing authors who contributed to this astonishing Tri-lingual literary work.

Luz Del Mes Tri-Anthology, the Quarantine Project, highlights writers from around the world as they recount their personal experiences with the quarantine. I immediately connected with several of the stories as I too experienced toilet paper shortages and ventured into the virtual teaching world overnight.

Polish Easter Basket, Recipes and Traditions

 

In our Church, Polish parishioners have shared this early-medieval tradition with our Anglo and Hispanic Community. After the traditional "Egg-Hunting," the priest blesses our "Święconka," meaning the blessing of the Easter Baskets.

The Baskets contain a sampling of Easter foods to be blessed on Holy Saturday for gatherings on Easter Sunday, but you can add additional items to the basket such as a good Easter Book.
The food in the Polish Easter Basket is similar to the Jewish Passover Menu. 

Prepare Polish Easter Basket :

The foods in the baskets have a symbolic meaning as follow:

Eggs - symbolize life and Christ's resurrection

Bread - symbolic of Jesus

Lamb - represents Christ

Salt - represents purification.

Horseradish - symbolic of the bitter sacrifice of Christ

Ham - symbolic of great joy and abundance

One excellent advice to prepare the Easter Basket for children is: 

"My favorite rule for an Easter basket is something to read, something for prayer, something to do, and something to wear. Within that rule, you can create something that fits the child’s age, interests, and your budget."

Golden Easter Punch

Spring Parties, Easter Parties and Golden Easter Punch to celebrate the Season. I learned this recipe helping in my children's school activities as volunteer mom. Now as teacher, I make punch for spring activities or special occasions at home. Let’s celebrate Spring/Easter with a Golden Punch and bilingual literature.

Golden Easter Punch Recipe

Ingredients:
1 (46 ounce) can pineapple juice
1 (12 ounce) can orange juice concentrate, thawed
1 (6 ounce) can lemonade concentrate, thawed
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 (2 liter) bottle 7-up (or other carbonated lemon-lime beverage)
1 quart pineapple sherbet

Directions:
Mix juices and vanilla in a large punchbowl.  

Add 7-up, stirring well.

Add sherbet just before serving.

April is here and the world is facing the worse moment, but it’s time to leave behind the spiritual winter and celebrate the season of internal joy. As Christians we are welcoming Florid Easter, a time of renewal. Other traditions welcome Spring as symbol of new life. Trees, plants, fields are beginning to turn green and blossom; new life is emerging from the ground. Just as winter symbolizes death, spring symbolizes new life. There is HOPE!

Abril está aquí y el mundo está atravesando por el peor momento, pero es hora de dejar atrás el invierno espiritual y celebrar un tiempo de gozo interno. Como cristianos/as le damos la bienvenida a la Pascua Florida o tiempo de renovación. Otras tradiciones dan la bienvenida a la primavera como símbolo de una nueva vida. Los árboles, las plantas, los campos están comenzando a volverse verdes y florecer; nueva vida está emergiendo de la tierra. Así como el invierno simboliza la muerte, la primavera simboliza una nueva vida.
