Holy Trinity with Shamrocks, Eggs or Apples

The Holy Trinity is not only a difficult concept to explain to adults, but a challenge trying to explain it in terms a child can understand. The Apostles’ Creed and Nicene Creed contains a great lesson and deep meaning of the controversial Trinity concept.

My favorite analogy of the Trinity is the Shamrock method used by Saint Patrick. Three leaves, but ONE Shamrock.

With the melody of Frère Jacques, sing with your kids while making the activity:

Praise the Father. Praise the Father.

Praise the Son. Praise the Son.

Praise the Holy Spirit. Praise the Holy Spirit.

Three in one. Three in one.

Other method I learned in a Religious Class is: Three in One with a hard-boiled Egg: The shell, the white, and the yolk represents God is made up of three parts (Father, Son and Holy Spirit), there is still only one God as only one Egg.

This year I found this creative book, 3 in 1: A Picture of God by Joanne Marxhausen (Author), Ed Koehler (Illustrator), Benjamin Marxhausen (Illustrator)

The author uses another method to guide children through the Holy Trinity with three parts: peel, flesh and core. Those parts represent Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Good Friday Hot Cross Buns

My mother custom to bless the food before putting the lid on the pot, it is my mind and still is in Catholic countries when they mark a new loaf of bread. The ancient Greeks may have marked cakes with a cross.

On Good Friday, loaves bearing an imprinted cross are eaten in diverse European countries. For instance, in England, buns were baked with a cross marked on them. They are said to have originated at Saint Alban's Abbey in 1361, where the monks distributed them to the poor.

Whatever their origin, let’s try hot cross buns this Good Friday!

Saint Joseph’s Day – Celebrate Traditions!

Each year on March 19th, many families prepare a table or altar in honor of Saint Joseph, Patron Saint of the poor. My Italian friends prepare a table with a well decorated fine linens, flowers and decorative breads. My favorites are the orange-cranberry scones.

Why is Saint Joseph the patron Saint of the poor?

We know little about Saint Joseph, but his humble work as a carpenter remains us or poor salary and humble life. (Matthew 13:55).

Who is St. Joseph?
Everything we know about Saint Joseph comes from the Bible. He was the husband of Mary and the foster father of Jesus. Despite his humble work, Joseph came from a royal lineage from David, the greatest king of Israel (Matthew 1:1-16 and Luke 3:23-38).
The circumstances of Joseph's death are not known, but it is likely that he died before Jesus’ ministry began and before Jesus’ Crucifixion (John 19:26-27).

What is the meaning of St. Joseph Table?This day parishes observe the three practice of Lent: pray, fast, and alms-giving by preparing a simple meal and the money raised is given to the poor.
