St. Lucia Traditions ~ Tradiciones de Santa Lucia

Lovely tradition to celebrate with family and friends.
In Sweden, one of the biggest celebration is St. Lucia’s Day on December 13th.The observance commemorates Lucia of Syracuse, virgin martyr under the Diocletianic Persecution. According to legend she was a young Christian who was killed for her faith in 304 AC since she secretly would bring food to the persecuted Christians in the catacombs, in Rome. She would wear candles on her head to have her hands free to carry the basket with supplies. For this, Lucy means “light.”
