Hispanic Heritage Month and the ecumenical Season of Creation overlap each year from September 15 to October 4, creating a unique window to honor both cultural roots and ecological stewardship.

Season of Creation - SEP. 15-OCT 4

On September first, we celebrate the World Day of Prayer for Care of Creation, a day that invites us to pause, pray, and reflect on our responsibility to care for God’s creation.

The Season of Creation, observed from September 1 through October 4 (Feast of Francis of Assisi), has its origins in this special day and invites us to deepen our commitment to caring for our common home.

2026 Theme: "Living Water," inspired by the biblical text of Ezekiel 47:1-12:

“ We are called to immerse ourselves in the water, and actively safeguard and work for the renewal of creation so that environmental healing and human well-being may flourish together.”

Purpose: To unite Christians worldwide in prayer, ecological conversion, and community action for environmental care and the well-being of marginalized communities.

Establishment: Pope Francis officially embraced the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation in the Catholic Church in 2015 and extended support for the broader month-long observance.

Focus: Grounded in the vision of Laudato Si', Catholics are invited to respond to both the "cry of the earth and the cry of the poor" through sustainable practices, advocacy, and prayer.

Pope Leo’s prayer intention for September: “Care for water”

"Let us pray for a just and sustainable management of water, a vital resource, so that everyone may have equal access to it."
