My CDU journey...Mi jornada con CDU

What do I need to do?...

The year 2019 surprised us with a pandemic, and one day, I  asked myself: What else do you need to do in life?... Immediately the answer came to my mind: "Your Master's Degree".

Then, I began my quest to get back into college after eight years of my bachelor’s degree.  I started an intense search and concluded that already at my age it was better to study something that I was passionate about it and not that I could return the investment with my work. 

I found a program, fully online with a reasonable price, in Theology and Educational Ministry, otherwise, it would not be feasible for me to drive two hours to the nearest university. In addition, the program featured fascinated elective classes, among them, ten days of study in Israel. Incredible! I could accomplish two big goals with one effort.

I registered and was accepted, but I did not pass the prerequisite class, my brain was quite rusty for critical analysis and depth of content of theology classes in English, which is my second language. Although my first teacher discouraged me from continuing, he was a professor from whom I learned the most, not only about theology but about spiritual life. Goals are achieved when you are prepared, and I was not prepared. Passion wasn't enough, I needed so much more.

I tried again and followed the advice of the dean, Dr. Brown: "read all the material in Spanish and then translate it into English so you can understand it better." This method improved my essays and answers in the exams. HARD TASK! As a result, I was admitted into the master’s degree in Theology for Educational Ministry. An intensive program that puts you in the reality of the religion you profess and of which you really know NOTHING.

After the first classes of Principle of Catholic Education, my philosophy of teaching catechesis began to improve. I no longer felt like a good volunteer teaching the CCD (Confraternity of Christian Doctrine), but as a disciple of Christ following his Great Commission: "Go out and make disciples of all nations. (Matthew 28:19). 

Christianity has an inseparable logic that intertwines not only the truths received from the faith, but also the expressions lived to transmit the doctrines to future generations. My studies at the Catholic Distance University have enriched me spiritually, intellectually and personally.

During graduation week, I received an offer to work for CDU, in a program that would open in Spanish. My dream of studying for a master's degree became a reality but the opportunity to work virtually from home I could never have imagined...the limits are only in our minds.

  ¿Qué me hace falta hacer?...

El año 2019 nos sorprendió con una pandemia, y un día pregunté: ¿Qué más te hace falta hacer en la vida? Inmediatamente llego a mi pensamiento la respuesta: ¡“Tu Maestría”!

Luego, comencé mi búsqueda para ingresar nuevamente a la Universidad después de ocho años de mi licenciatura. Comencé una intensa búsqueda y llegué a la conclusión que ya a mi edad era mejor estudiar algo que me apasionara y no que pudiese retribuir la inversión con mi trabajo. 

Encontré un programa, totalmente en línea con un precio razonable, en Teología y Ministerio Educativo, de lo contrario, no sería factible, para mi, conducir dos horas hasta la universidad más cercana. Además, el programa contaba con fascinantes clases electivas; entre ellas, diez días de estudio en Israel. ¡Increíble! Podría cumplir dos grandes metas con un solo esfuerzo.

Me registré y fui aceptada, pero no pasé la clase de prerrequisito, realmente estaba bastante oxidado mi cerebro para el análisis crítico y la profundidad del contenido de las clases de teología en inglés, que es mi segunda lengua.  Aunque mi primer profesor me desanimó a continuar, fue del profesor del que más aprendí, no solo de teología sino de la vida espiritual. Las metas se logran cuando se está preparado y yo no estaba preparada. La pasión no era suficiente, necesitaba mucho más.

Intente nuevamente y seguí el consejo del consejero universitario: “lea todo el material en español y luego la traduce a inglés para poder entender”. Este método me ayudo a mejoraré mis ensayos y respuestas en los exámenes. ¡TAREA ARDUA! Como resultado fui admitida en el programa de Teología y Ministerio Educativo. Un programa interesante e intensivo que te pone en la realidad de la religión que profesas y de la que no sabes realmente NADA.

Después de las primeras clases de Principio de Educación Católica, mi filosofía de enseñanza de la catequesis empezó a mejorar Ya no me sentía como un buen voluntario enseñando CCD (Cofradía de la Doctrina Cristiana), sino como un discípulo de Cristo siguiendo su Gran Llamado: "Salid y haced discípulos a todas las naciones. (Mateo 28:19). 

El cristianismo tiene una lógica inseparable que entrelaza no solo las verdades recibidas de la fe, sino también las expresiones vividas para transmitir las doctrinas a generaciones futuras. Mis estudios en la Universidad Católica a Distancia me han enriquecido espiritual, intelectual y personalmente. 

Durante la semana de graduación, recibí la oferta de trabajar para CDU, en un programa que se abriría en español. Mi sueño de estudiar un máster se hizo realidad pero la oportunidad de trabajar virtualmente desde casa nunca me lo hubiera imaginado...los límites sólo están en nuestra mente. ¡TOTALMENTE AGRADECIDA!
