Quarantine and social distance have been a great impact on each and every human being on earth. Working from home and using virtual communication have been the norm, yet internet etiquette must be a rule as important as any other basic rule. In the expert’s opinion, Netiquette is as important as dressing professionally to go for a meeting, interview or in person presentation.

 To begin with, Zooming with friends, family, collages and readers has been an interesting experience. However it is weird to chat across the screen and observe people in their pajamas, without makeup or hairstyles. COVID’19 came for a reason, we are virtually into this together. Please let’s follow some Netiquette:

 

1.     Use respectful language.

2.     Dress for success.

3.     Avoid eating (only it is part of the meeting).

4.     Share with discretion.

5.     Don’t exclude others.

6.     Don’t interrupt while someone is talking.

7.     Respect other’s time and listen.

8.     Fact check before participating.

9.     Share expert knowledge.

10.   Know where you are in cyberspace.

The same way, netiquette rules can apply for social media interaction. Proper etiquette is nothing new, but the constant changes in digital era may seem a little confusing for some cyber users. The main rule of thumb is to use respectful language – if you don’t talk calling, cursing, and offending others – don’t write it! It is not my intention to lecture, but please avoid to write in capital letters – Text in all caps is generally perceived as yelling – Except it is the title of an announcement or advertising.

 Finally, don’t forget to use the magic words: please and thank you!

La cuarentena y la distancia social han sido un gran impacto en todos y cada uno de los seres humanos en la tierra. Trabajar desde casa y usar la comunicación virtual han sido la norma, sin embargo, la etiqueta de internet ser una regla tan importante como cualquier otra regla básica. En la opinión de los expertos, la Netiqueta es tan importante como vestirse profesionalmente para ir a una reunión, entrevista o presentación en persona.

 Para empezar, hacer zoom con amigos, familiares, colegas y lectores ha sido una experiencia interesante. Sin embargo, es raro charlar a través de la pantalla y observar a la gente en pijama, sin maquillaje, ni peinados. COVID'19 vino por una razón, estamos virtualmente en esto juntos. Por favor, sigamos algunas reglas de netiqueta:

1.     Usa un lenguaje respetuoso.

2.     Vístete para el éxito.

3.     Evita comer (sólo si es parte de la reunión).

4.     Comparta con discreción.

5.     No excluya a otros.

6.     No interrumpa mientras alguien está hablando.

7.     Respeta el tiempo de los demás y escucha.

8.     Verifica los datos antes de participar.

9.     Comparta conocimientos de expertos.

10.   Sepa dónde se encuentra en el ciberespacio.

 

De la misma manera, las reglas de netiqueta pueden aplicarse para la interacción en las redes sociales. La etiqueta de internet adecuada no es nada nuevo, pero los cambios constantes en la era digital pueden parecer un poco confusos para algunos usuarios cibernéticos. La regla principal es usar un lenguaje respetuoso – si no hablas llamando, maldiciendo y ofendiendo a otros – ¡no lo escribas! No es mi intención dar un sermón, pero evita escribir en mayúsculas – El texto en todas las mayúsculas se percibe generalmente como gritos – Excepto cuando es el título de un anuncio o publicidad.
